Virginia und the truth about Santa Claus

In 1897 the little Virginia wrote to the newspaper "New York Sun":

"Dear Editor, I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, "If you see it in The Sun, it's so." Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?"

On September 21st 1897 the letter of the little Virginia was published in the "New York Sun" and answered in an editorial under the headline "Is there a Santa Claus?"

"Dear Virginia, with pleasure we answer your question: Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the scepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe in nothing that they can not see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. The mind, Virginia, whether of adults or children, is always small. In our great universe, man is a mere insect as compared with the boundless world about him, and as measured by the great intelligence capable of grasping the whole truth and knowledge.

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love, generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Nobody can see Santa Claus, but what does that prove? That is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Nobody can conceive or image all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. The invisible world is covered by a veil which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, love, poetry, romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is that all real? Oh Virginia, in the whole world there is nothing else more real and abiding.

There shall be no Santa Claus? No Virginia, thanks God! Santa Claus lives and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood."

Mit Holzwolle gestopfte Teddybären gehören zum Raritätenschatz der Teddybärenwelt und werden heute kaum noch auf dem Markt angeboten. Was früher zum täglichen Handwerk der Teddybärenmacher gehörte, ist zu einer wertvollen und raren Kostbarkeit geworden. Weltweit gibt es nur noch eine Handvoll Experten, die heute noch die traditionelle Kunst des Holzwollstopfens beherrschen. Eine jahrelange Ausbildung, Muskelkraft und ein künstlerisches Gespür für Formgebung sind erforderlich, um den sehr zeitaufwendigen Arbeitsgang des Holzwollstopfens auszuführen. Nur sehr alte und traditionsreiche Manufakturen haben heute überhaupt noch das Wissen, wie Teddybären nach altem Vorbild mit Holzwolle gestopft werden können, so dass mit Holzwolle gestopfte Teddybären heute kaum noch zu finden sind.

Seit über 100 Jahren pflegen wir in unserem Haus die Kunst des Stopfens der Teddybären mit Holzwolle. Dies macht unsere Teddybären zu unvergleichbaren und einzigartigen Geschöpfen mit werterhaltendem Charakter.

Teddy Bears stuffed with excelsior belong to the rarity treasure of the Teddy Bear world and are only rarely offered on the collector's market today. What used to be the daily work of the Teddy Bear makers in former times, has become a valuable and rare treasure today. Worldwide there are only a handful of experts who are still familiar with the traditonal art of excelsior stuffing. Years of training, muscle strength and an artistic sense for styling are necessary to carry out this very time-consuming work. Only very old and long-standing manufactures have still the knowledge today, how Teddy Bears can be stuffed with excelsior according to old example, so that nowadays excelsior stuffed Teddy Bears are hardly to find.

For more than 100 years, we have cultivated the tradition of stuffing our Teddy Bears with excelsior and we have preserved for us this knowledge untill today. This gives our Teddy Bears their exceptional value and makes them to uncomparable and unique creatures with value-preserving character.

Der Bär mit eingesetzter Schnauze Modell-Erklärungen

Beim "Bär mit eingesetzter Schnauze" handelt es sich um eine Modellart, die von Max Hermann in den 1920er Jahren entwickelt wurde. Bei diesem Modell besteht die Schnauze aus einem kürzerflorigen Mohairplüsch als der Bär selbst. Sie wird gesondert zugeschnitten und an das Kopfteil des Bären angenäht. Mit dieser Modellvariante wurden die Teddybären von Max Hermann bekannt und berühmt. Wie kaum ein anderes Bärendesign ist der "Bär mit der eingesetzten Schnauze" mit dem Namen HERMANN verknüpft und hat Geschichte geschrieben. Noch heute ist diese Gestaltungsart das bevorzugte Teddybären-Modell in unserem Hause.

The "Bear with inserted snout" is a type of model developed by Max Hermann in the 1920s. For this model, the snout consists of a shorter-pile plush than the bear itself. It is cut separately and sewn onto the bear's head part. With this model variant, Max Hermann's Teddy Bears became known and famous. Like hardly any other bear design, the "Bear with the inserted snout" is linked to the name HERMANN and has written history. Still today this design is the preferred Teddy Bear model in our company.
