Halloween

Am 31. Oktober ist Halloween, das Fest der Hexen und Dämonen. Die Wurzeln von Halloween gehen auf das keltische Neujahrsfest zurück. In der Nacht zum 1. November galten die Pforten zur Unterwelt geöffnet. Geister konnten in die diesseitige Welt eintreten. Im 9. Jhd. wurde das heidnische Neujahrsfest von der Kirche zum Allerheiligenfest um-funktioniert. Dennoch blieben die alten Vorstellungen erhalten. So kam es zu dem Brauch, dass am Vorabend zu Allerheiligen Menschen als Geister verkleidet auf die Straße gingen. In Deutschland wurde Halloween erst in jüngster Zeit populär. Seinen Weg fand es über die USA. Mit dem Spruch "trick or treat" was so viel heißt wie "Streich oder Belohnung" gehen Kinder als Geister und Hexen verkleidet von Haus zu Haus, um Süßigkeiten zu erbitten. Das Symbol für Halloween ist der Kürbis, dessen Gesicht mit einer Kerze zum Leuchten gebracht wird. Die Farben von Halloween sind schwarz und orange.
